A Small Faith Community is a group of people who gather together on a regular basis, in faith, to break open the word of God, pray together and/or share one another's stories. Each group is unique, as unique as the people in the community. The small community can be a source of great nurturing and support to all of us on our faith journeys.
The Small Faith Communities were formed at St. William after our Parish Mission during Lent of 1999. Presently, there are five groups who meet every two weeks and more frequently during the seasons of Advent and Lent. Both evening and morning sessions are held.
Several of our St. William parishioners have been trained as facilitators. Facilitators are part of your community - they are not the "experts". Your facilitator is a peer who has a deep desire to belong to a Small Faith Community and has felt the call to facilitate. After a Small Faith Community experience, perhaps you may sense a call to facilitate.
Perhaps you remember "Christ Renews His Parish" and the many small prayer/faith groups, which grew out of that parish experience. Or, if you have been involved in the RCIA, you also have experienced small group process. You know from these experiences that that they provide safe, nurturing environments.
Small groups foster a sense of belonging, and in time, a level of trust. Faith can be nourished in a loving, trust-filled atmosphere. Laughter and tears can be shared. If you find yourself needing spiritual sustenance, a Small Faith Community may be what you are seeking. If you sense a need to connect with other people on a deeper level, this may be for you.
