Saint William Parent News for May/June 2007


This is our last monthly newsletter for this school year. It’s hard to believe the school year is coming to a close! We will continue to send out weekly news for the remainder of the school year.

Reminder – Labels and Box Tops – Bring in you General Mills Box Tops for Education, Campbell’s Soup labels, Tyson Labels, etc. We just received a check for $821 for this school year! We will continue to collect these during the summer months; you can drop off your labels and box tops at school and at the parish center. The school has limited hours during the summer months. Please call ahead.

AUTISM STUDENTS
Students in the Autism Program will begin going to Mass on Wednesday mornings at 10:00am. Each Wednesday beginning May 2nd the students will attend Mass in the Chapel located in the Parish Center.


Friday May 4th, Mary Day:
The Rosary will be said outdoors at 10:00 a.m. if weather permits. (Gym, if raining) Students may bring blankets to sit on. May Crowning is 1:30 in church. The procession will begin at 1:15 from the main hallway of school. Students will begin to line up at 1:00pm. 8th grade students will participate in mass and one of the 8th grade students will be chosen to crown Mary.

8th grade students have a different schedule for this day – please refer to your 8th grade packet that was sent home at the beginning of April.

2nd grade students will also participate in May Crowning. Second grade students may go home to change into their First Communion clothing at 11:30 for lunch and return at 1:00 – students need to be signed out and back in at the school office. Students who are leaving for this day need to turn in a permission slip, which is being sent home with the students.

Students are asked to please send flowers to school to decorate the May Altar for Mary. Family members are invited to join us.


8th grade graduation pictures will be taken on Friday, May 4th beginning at 10:30am. Please be prompt for the group photo.


Friday, May 4th marks the middle of the 4th quarter. Interims will go home on Friday, May 11th.


There will be on 8:15 am Mass on Friday, May 4th.


The orientation for next year’s kindergarten families is coming up. There are 2 dates to choose from; Wednesday, May 16 and Thursday, May 17th. All families should have received a reservation and information packet in the mail. Please return your reservation forms to the office as soon as possible. The due date is Friday May 4th to return the reservation.


The next date for Market Day pick up is Thursday, May 10th from 6- 7pm. Kindergarten families are asked to help unload the truck beginning at 5:00pm. Market Day will continue through the summer months. Dates will be published at a later time. During the summer months you can order online or you can make arrangements to pick up Market Day forms in the school office or Parish Center. Or you can call the school and we can mail one to you.


8:15 Mass on Friday, May 11.


Interims for the 4th quarter go home on Friday, May 11th. Please review with your child and return to school as soon as possible.


8th grade field trip to Camp Kern is scheduled for Friday, May 11th. Students will arrive at school by 7:15am to leave at 7:30am. The bus will return at 9:00pm in the school parking lot.


The 4th grade field trip to the Appalachian Festival at Coney Island is set for Friday, May 11th. Students will leave at 8:30am and return to school by 2:00pm. Pack a bag lunch and bring a drink.


The “Write Your Own Story” Contest is going on now. This is open to all students grade k-8. Deadline is Friday, May 11th to Mrs. Conway in the library. See the flyer in this packet for more information.


The Children’s Liturgy for May is Tuesday, May 13th – Mother’s Day - during the 9:00am Mass. Children’s Choir and students from St. William School will participate in the Mass. This will be our last Children’s Liturgy for this school year.


The last day to do Book Adventure in the library is May 14th. The last day to earn prizes for this school year is May 20th. Prizes will be given out to the top 3 students in each homeroom grades k-4. Keep reading those blue dot books in the library! Also the week of May 14th will be the last week to check out books from the library. Please return any overdue books as soon as possible.


Our next 1:00 DISMISSAL is Tuesday, May 15th. Please make sure to note this on your calendar. We usually have several students left in the office after dismissal because families forgot about the early dismissal.


7th grade students who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation next year have a parent meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 17th, 2007. At least one parent is expected to attend. The meeting will be held at 7:00pm.


Ascension of the Lord is Thursday, May 17th.


8:15am Mass will be held on Friday, May 18th. One of our students will receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist during this school Mass.


The 8th grade picnic at Delhi Park is scheduled for Friday, May 18th from 9:30am-2:30pm.


Kindergarten has a field trip planned to Sunrock Farm. Students will leave at 9:00am and return to school at 1:00pm.


The Parish Staff will hold the annual 8th grade grill out on Thursday, April 24th. The staff does this each year to bid the 8th graders farewell and to wish them luck as they go on to high school.


The eighth grade play will be Thursday, May 24th at 7:00 p.m. in FRH. Students are asked to arrive by 6:30pm.


Field Day and Walk a thon is scheduled for grades K-8 on Friday, May 25th from 9:30 – 1:00pm. Students will walk to Elder High School. Students are out of uniform – wear your walk-a-thon t-shirt and comfortable walking shoes. Gym shoes are appropriate– no flip-flops or sandals! Students will eat lunch at the football stadium - pack a bag lunch and bring a drink. Activities will take place in the football stadium. A list of volunteers who have already signed up is included in this week’s packet. We need quite a few volunteers to make this event a success. A volunteer sheet is included again this week. If you are available please return the volunteer sheet as soon as possible.


Congratulations to Andrea Toth whose design was chosen for the Walk- a-thon shirt. Thank you to all of the students who turned in a design. It was a very tough decision.

Walk a thon pledges are due the day of the event. Pledge envelopes were sent home with each student right before Easter.


Pentecost Sunday is Sunday, May 27th.


NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 28th in honor of Memorial Day. Please keep all of our Troops and Veterans in your prayers.


The 7th grade field trip to King’s Island for Math and Science day is Tuesday, May 29th.


A representative from the Hamilton County Park District will visit the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade on May 29th and May 30th. The following programs will be offered;


May 29th – Pioneer Program in the 3rd grade from 9-10am and in the 4th grade from 10:30-11:30am.


May 30th - Habitat Presentation in the 2nd grade from 9-10am and in the 3rd grade from 10:30-11:30am.


8th grade students will arrive for graduation practice on Wednesday, May 30th at 8:00am. 8th grade students will be dismissed at 12:00pm.


Eighth grade Graduation is Wednesday, May 30 at 7:00 p.m. in Church. Diplomas and awarding of scholarships will follow the Mass. There is a brief reception outside church following the awards. The 8th grade dance will be held in Father Reardon Hall after the reception. Reminder: parents must sign students in and out of dance.


Thursday, May 31 and Friday, June 1 will dismiss at 1:00 p.m. Students may bring a snack, as there will be no lunch period.


Last day of school is Friday, June 1. School will dismiss for the year at 1:00pm. Information concerning the last day of school and the annual awards ceremony will be sent out soon.


Report Cards will go home the last day of school. Please remember that all tuition accounts and school fines need to be paid in full for students to receive their final report card.


Schoolbelles – the store that carries our school uniforms (especially skirts and jumpers -the only place in the country) will open a temporary outlet by Biggs on Crookshank. Beginning June 19th you may shop there for your uniform needs. The store will remain open through July 14th. A copy of the uniform guidelines will be sent out at the end of the year.


Registration for the 2007-2008 should now be complete. All paper work and the $200 registration fee for returning students should be on file. New students have until August 1st to turn in Medical and Dental forms. Please keep in mind that your family will not be included in the class list that goes out in early August if any paperwork or fees are missing.
